Reconsiders: Titan's
Cunningham Granted More Eligibility--(May 2,1998)
Cal State Fullerton's Jason Cunningham (6'-5" Sr. F) was granted an extra year of eligibility with the Titans men's basketball team Thursday, according to June Kearney, the school's director of athletic compliance. Cunningham, 24, who was a 1992 graduate of Los Alamitos High, will be considered a senior in 1998-99. It will actually be his seventh season since graduating high school, although he redshirted for one of those.
Kearney said NCAA official Kevin Fite called to inform her a special subcommittee agreed with the school's appeal to allow Cunningham another year at CSF. An earlier decision by an NCAA panel had ruled Cunningham had used up his eligibility.
Cunningham played for the Titans this past season, and redshirted in 96-97 at Fullerton. He graduated from Los Alamitos in 1992. graduate of Los Alamitos. He atteneded West Ark Community College in Fort Smith, Arkansas, UNLV and Fullerton College. An original appeal by CSF on Cunningham's behalf had been denied. Cunningham appealed from the original denial, saying he he was misguided by an academic adviser in high school over required course work.
