ASU Signs
Lohnnie Tape;
Still Waiting On Decker--(April 30,1998)
Arizona State has signed Lohnnie Tape (6'-7" So. F) from Rancho Santiago Junior College, in Rancho Santiago, CA.
Tape (pronounced "ta-PAY") is the leading scorer in Rancho Santiago history.
New Head Coach Rob Evans and his staff have now signed five players this spring: Tape, Alton Mason, a JC guard, Derrick Davis another JC wing-forward, Chris Bryant a guard from Washington High School, and Awvee Storey, a transfer from Illinois, who will have to sit out next year.
Prior to the spring signings, interim Head Coach Don Newman signed three high school players, including Willie Hendricks of Seattle, Kenny Crandall of Mesa Mountain View, and Chad Prewitt of Greenway High. The word is that Hendricks might have trouble qualifying academically.
Veterans Mike Batiste, Bobby Lazor, Eddie House, Jason Patton and Okeme Oziwo will all retgurn.
ASU is still waiting to hear from Tate Decker (6'-11" So. C) who is expected to transfer from Missouri. Decker has reportedly narrowed his choices to ASU and Wake Forest.
With the signing of Tape, ASU will have signed the maximum 13 scholarship players, so that might pose a problem if Hendricks does qualify. If he does, and if Decker comes to ASU, then someone will have to go.
