UCLA Scoop! Moosey Signs With Bruins.--(April 23,1998)

Jerome Moiso (6'-11" Sr. PF), aka "Moosey" as he was affectionately named by Richard Jefferson of Phoenix Moon Valley (University of Arizona), who weighs in at 225-pounds, and who was named by The Sporting News as the No. 8 prep prospect in the U. S. and the nation's top shot blocker, has signed a National Letter of Intent to play basketball at UCLA, Bruin head coach Steve Lavin announced Thursday.

Moiso (pronounced "Moe-eee-zo"), a graduate of The INSEP School in Paris, France and native of Guadeloupe, an island in the West Indies, has been attending Milford Academy in Milford, CN since February.

According to an official press release issued by the Bruins today, Bruin coaches first noticed Moiso, a left-hander, in April 1997 at the Nike Hoop Summit Game in Orlando, FL., along with about 15, 000 others who noticed him there. Playing for an International team vs. U. S. prep all-stars, he scored 14 points, on seven of eight shooting from the field.

Last Sunday at the Forum, Moiso played in the Eddie Jones All-Star Classic. In that game, he had nine points and 11 rebounds.

He has played internationally on French Junior teams as a forward.

"Jerome Moiso is a very important piece to our recruiting puzzle, because of his size and his ability to play in the low post," Lavin said. "He can handle the basketball, is a good passer, can shoot the three and play with his back to the basket. He's a great addition to the Bruin basketball family."

Moiso is the fourth Bruin basketball recruit for the upcoming season. Earlier this month, 6'-7" forward JaRon Rush, from Pembroke Hill School in Kansas City, Missouri, a first-team Parade Magazine and McDonald's All-American, signed with UCLA. Last November, 6'-5" guard Ray Young, another McDonald's All-American, from St. Joseph Notre Dame in Alameda, and 6'-7" forward Matt Barnes, who was also a prep football standout, from Del Campo HS in Fair Oaks, signed with the Bruins.
