Northridge Signs
Hewitt Rolle As Last Player--(April 29,1998)
Cal State Northridge basketball coach Bobby Braswell announced yesterday that the CSUN men's basketball team had signed Hewitt Rolle (6'-7" So. PF) from Lon Morris JC of Jacksonville, Texas as the Matadors final player this spring. Rolle is a native of Exuma Island in the Bahamas, which is famous for its great beaches and scuba and snorkeling, but certainly not its basketball players. But Rolle is a player: Last season at Lon Morris he averaged 10.2 ppg and 11.5 rebounds. Lon Morris was 17-3.
According to a statement issued by CSUN, Braswell said, "He is a legitimate power forward who is very strong and aggressive around the basket. He is a great addition."
Some have speculated that the signing of Rolle means that Jabari Simmons, a junior, will not be back for his senior season, and that's probably a correct assessment. Simmons, who averaged 11.6 ppg and 6.1 rpg, quit the team late in the season, but continues to attend classes.
