LA Times Season Final Valley Boys' Team Rankings--(March 27, 1998)

From time to time, we've shared the Los Angeles Times' Boy's Basketball Top 10 polls, which have been alternately contributed to by Times sportswriters such as Gary Klein, Peter Yoon, Paige Leach, and Eric Sondheimer to mention just a few. And there's probably more that we've omitted unintentionally, and to them we apologize. We've enjoyed their reporting, their knowledge and insights, and the great background information they provide throughout the year; if you haven't done so already, go buy a subscription to the LA Times. It's big, it's bad, and it's the best we've got in SoCal, especially now that Frank Burlison has moved on from the Long Beach PT down south to the OC Register. In fact, you should subscribe to all these papers; they're cheap, and it's an easy way to keep up on all of the hoop stuff throughout the year in SoCal. We've sometimes featured the Daily News polls ( but we haven't seen a Daily News poll for weeks now, the Cal-Hi and CIF polls, and other polls during the season.

This is the last one we'd expect to see from the LA Times. It's really just a matter of opinion though, and you may choose to agree or disagree, and in most instances, we think the number of ranking is almost irrelevant; there are probably some teams which deserve to be listed, such as Grant or North Hollywood in the City Section 4A, and one could very easily argue that it doesn't make sense to come out with a single poll which compares a Division III school such as Chaminade to a City Section 3A school like San Fernando, or a Division V school like Montclair. That's why we really don't much care for polls.

Anyway, here's the final rankings of regional high schools by the Times' sportswriters:
