CIF State
Playoffs: Division III Brackets:
Southern Region and Northern Region--(March 8, 1998)
Southern
California vs. Northern California Champion
Saturday 3/21
At ARCO Arena, 3:00 p.m.
More brackets. This time both the Southern and Northern brackets for Division III for the CIF "Arco-AM/PM" State Championship playoffs. Since Arco has paid a whole bunch of money to sponsor these games, it's only fitting that they get the publicity they deserve. Kudos to Arco, and to the Arco-Lod Cook Center for Youth Achievement located in Burbank. Their support of CIF basketball throughout the State this year has been greatly appreciated.
Southern Region Championship Bracket
In the Southern Region, we aren't a bit surprised that Washington Union, with Chris Jeffries, who will be heading to Arkansas, is the No. 1 seed. They will match up against St. Augustine, and Saints has twice lost to USDHS this season, but they are nevertheless an impressive team. The second game in the upper bracket is Ocean View v. Bishop Montgomery, and this will be an exciting matchup, featuring two very strong teams, although at this point, we'd have to give the edge to OV with their smothering defense, but only time will tell, and BM has some very exciting players including Tony Booker. In the other half of the bracket, Chaminade, the Division III-A SS Champion matches up against Barstow, which lost to Ocean View in the III-AA SS finals on Saturday afternoon, and because of the seeding, there's no chance that Ocean View and Barstow will match up again, unless a miracle happens and Barstow gets past Chaminade and the winner of the USDHS vs. Yosemite game. We don't know much about Yosemite, but we know a lot about USDHS Dons which feature the Walton family, McMillan and Abramowitz.
We'll have more later, but for now, here is the Southern Regional Bracket:

Northern Region Championship Bracket
We hope to have some background on some of these teams shortly. For now, we know only a very little about most of these teams, and we'd suggest that if you want information about these teams that you head over to some of the Northern California papers, such as the Sacramento Bee or the Chronicle/Examiner site known as The Gate. We don't have the URL's handy, but they can be obtained through any search engine. Here's what the NorCal Region looks like:
