Reebok Holiday Prep Classic:
Canyon Anaheim Wins--(Dec. 20, 1999)

Game No. 38 of the Reebok Holiday Prep Classic, a Bronze Cup game between Canyon (3-4) and Eldorado (3-4) in the Consolation half of the Bronze Cup Tournament, and finally Canyon picks up the win, along with MVP honors for Derron Putnam, who led Canyon scoring with 22 points, 10 rebounds, who played a great game.  He wasn't the high scorer in the game (that was Darryl Givens with 23 form Eldorado), but he played a heck of a game overall, the best player on the victorious Canyon team.    He shot 8 for 14 overall from the field and even though he was only 1 for 4 from three ponit range and 5 for 11 from the line, he had 9 defensive rebounds and an assist in 31 minutes of play.

Others scoring for Canyon were Jamal Taylor who had 15 points on 5 for 14 from the field, and 3 for 11 from three point range; he was also 2 for 3 from the line, and he had 11 rebounds.  In fact, Canyon just killed Eldorado on the boards, outrebouding them 42-35.   James Lattos also had 14 points (5 for 8 from the field and 4-7 from the line), and Darryl Parker had 4 points as did Travis Klein, while Christian Amador had 3.

Canyon shot 5-% fromthe field in the first half, and 46.8% overall in the game, while El Dorado only shot 33%.  Keith Floyd also played well for El Dorado, picking up 10 points.

Canyon will continue to advance in the Consolation bracket, and will next play Montclair Prep at 10:30 a.m. at Green Valley's Auxiliary Gym.   Both Montclair Prep and Canyon will be playing for the right to play for 7th or 8th place in the Bronze Cup on Wednesday;  the loser of the game tomorrow will be done (since there's only a three game guarantee).
