Reebok Holiday Prep Classic: Westchester
Collapses Against Greensboro, 51-37--(Dec. 18, 1999)

Bronze Cup Game:  Game No. 21   Westchester v. Greensboro Day (NC), Durango Main Gym

How the mighty have fallen. . . . Westchester, two seasons now removed from an LA City Championship and a California State Division I Championship, managed only 37 points (18 in the first half, 19 in the second) in a first round loss to Greensboro Day  (NC) in the Millenium Cup Tournament. Westchester had only one player score in double figures, Ashanti Cook who finished with 11 points.   Maybe the Comets were all sick, maybe their luggage got lost or maybe they wandered the desert looking for Durango, and we don't mean to be too harsh about this, but if they were lost trying to find the gym, they should have stayed lost.  This was not pretty.

How bad was it for Westchester?  Chad Bell (7'-0" Jr. C) got only 7 point and 2 rebounds.  Two rebounds. Cedric Thompkins, a transfer from Dominguez, managed 2-5 shooting from the field and finished with 4 points.   And those were the good stats for Westchester.  Think about this one: Brandon Heath, one of the best scoring perimeter shooters in the sophomore class, went 0-10 from the field, and 0-7 from three point range.  He managed 3-4 from the line, but turned the ball over twice and only managed one assist.   The leading rebounder on the team (Thompkins) only had 6.   Jason Breland, another good scorer usually,   went 3-9 from the field and 1-3 from three.  Brandon Bowman went 0-4 from the field and 0-2 from three.  Terrance Lawson took only one shot the whole game, a three, and he missed it.  Brice Buchanan had the best shooting percentage (100%) but unfortunately he only took one shot.  Keith Everage didn't shoot the ball, and neither did Langston Terrell, and they both got minimal time.   Kevin Brown, normally a contributor to the offense didn't play and Jason McKinney (5'-10" So. PG) who many believe to be among the three best point guards in the sophomore class, for some strange reason wasn't on the roster (grades?  flu?  JV again this year?).

Fortunately for Westchester (6-3), they've got the weekend to regroup before playing again on Monday at 8:05 p.m. against Erie Prep which lost to host Durango.
