| [Note: These are the program notes we wrote for the Official Best in the West Program. We know for a fact that many of the team profiles were edited to save space in the program. So, we thought we'd at least make some use of the original material by posting it up here. Additionally, with some of these teams, we've already done previews here at SoCalHoops, and where they exist, we'll link to them. |
Cabrillo High (Long Beach, CA): This will be Cabrillo's first year in the tough Moore League, after two years of freelancing, and Coach Greg Pappas hopes the team learns from the Best in the West experience and develops into a playoff contender this season. Cabrillo is a new school, only three years old, but they've put together a credible program in that short time, starting with Tremayne Rankins (6'-4" Sr. SG/SF) who averaged 18 ppg last season and 9 rebounds per game. Alex Sansberry (6'-1" Sr. SG/SF) has been having a great preseason so far, leading the team in scoring (16 ppg last season; 3 assists per game). Others to watch include: Herbie Brown (6'-0" So. SG/GP) a pure shooter; Jonathan Friar (6'-4" So. C), a good rebounder and shotblocker; Devin Sheridan (5'-9" Jr. SG), who has good range; Marcus Wedlo (6'-2" Jr. SG/SF) another good shooter; Jerrion Haley (6'-0" Sr. G) the team's best jump defenders; Antonio Staley (5'-10" Sr. G) is a smooth shooter; Ryan Jones (6'-3" Sr. F/C) and Jonathan Brown (6'-3' So. F) will both see time in the middle.
