40th Annual Best In The West Invitational:
Maps & Directions--(Dec. 24, 1999)

The tournament will take place at two principal locations:   Long Beach State University, and Lakewood High School.

Long Beach State is located at 1250 Bellflower Blvd., Long Beach, CA 90840 (the zip code is probably superfluous since you won't be mailing yourself there), and if you get really lost, call the school for directions from your cell phone at   (562) 985-4111.

All first round games will be at the Long Beach State.   The school's own website has some really good directions and maps of how to get there, so we won't reprint that map, but here's the link for freeway access maps.  Directions are as follows:

From the 405 Southbound, exit at Bellflower, and turn left off the freeway, then make an immediate right and continue on Bellflower to State University Drive.  From the 405 Northbound, exit at 7th Street and continue to Bellflower Blvd. Turn righ at Bellflower and then make another right at State University Drive.  You will continue past the Visitor Informatoin Booth, turning left at the second street (not the first), and continue around until you see the gym parking area.   If you are at all confused, it's a good idea to stop at the Visitor Information Booth to ask for detailed directions to the gyms and to inquire about a parking permit, because you'll need one; they're cheap, a lot cheaper than a ticket.

The second and third days of the tournament (Tuesday and Wednesday) will also feature consolation games at Lakewood High School, which is located at 4400 Briercrest Avenue, in Lakewood, CA.  If you get really, really lost, the phone number of the school is (562) 425-1281, but be forewarned, it's vacation time and they probably aren't answering the phones.  Here's a map with the route from LBSU (F) to Lakewood (T) highlighted:

From Long Beach State to Lakewood, get back to Bellflower Blvd, and continue north for about 3.7 miles just past Carson Street; tturn right onto Harvey Way and then turn left onto Briercrest and you'll see the school It's only about 10 minutes in traffic from LBSU so it's no problem getting there.

See you there.
