West Invitational

Wow. . . we really had trouble getting the scores out of the Best in the West from yesterday's games (hey, Ebony. . . what's up?) and in fact we don't have nearly all of them, just the one's that the Long Beach Press Telegram printed in their daily recap of the boxes. . . and you won't believe how we had to get them (we do though, want to thank the nice City Editors at the Press-Telegram, which no longer sponsors the tournament, but which does let Louis Johnson out occasionally to cover the really important stuff (thanks Louis for all you do), for reading the scores and schedule to us over the phone . . . unbelievable that the dang LB Press-Telegram website doesn't cover prep sports anymore. . . but that's another story).
Here's the schedule, insofar as we can ascertain it based on the results from yesterday's games:
At LBSU At Goldmine
Championship: Artesia v. Dominguez 8:30
Third Place: Clovis West v. LB Poly--7:00 p.m.
Fifth Place: Bishop Montgomery v. Ayala 4:50 p.m.
Ninth Place: St. Ignatius v. Santa Monica Crossroad 3:15pm
East Gym Consolation
Canyon Springs v. Bellarmine Prep 3:10 p.m.
Pasadena v. Tampa Catholic 1:35 p.m.
Lakewood v. LA Joradn 12:00 p.m.
Millikan v. Cabrillo 10:30 p.m.
Scores From 12/29/99:
Artesia 73, Clovis West 48
Dominguez 59, Poly 51
Bishoop Montgomery 66, Jordan 41
Centenial 39 St. Ig 58
Wilson 69, LA Jordan 42
SouthGate 59, Lakewood 46
South Gate 43, Wilson 34
Hopefully we'll be able to make it down to Long Beach from Santa Barbara today (the last game we have to attend, the Championship of the Santa Maria tournament, doesn't start until 3:30 p.m., so it's gonna be questionable whether we make it or not. . . ). If we don't, well, we don't. But the Artesia v. Dominguez game is going to be pretty interesting, featuring the matchups of big men Amaury Fernandez and Jack Martinez against Tyson Chandler and Keith Brooks. Based on what we've seen thus far of Dominguez, which is in dire need of a true point guard now that Keilon Fortune is not with the team, we'd have to say that Artesia is the odds on favorite to take the title. . . but then, that's why they actually play the games instead of just mailing in the scores. . . you never know.
See you there. . . hopefully.
