Ocean View Tournament Of
Champions Set For Today--(Dec. 6, 1999)
The Ocean View Tournament of Champions will get underway today, every day, running through Saturday, December 11. The first round matchups will be played at Ocean View with the winners proceeding on to play games at Ocean View, and some of the losers bracket games at both Ocean View and Mater Dei.
The first round matchups will feature some great teams. The tournament is broken up into "upper" and "lower" brackets, but there's really no distinction between the quality of teams in either half of the brackets, because all the teams are first rate and among the best in SoCal.
Here are the first round matchups set for today and tomorrow, including times and locations:

The remaining games, both in the losers and winners brackets, will be played on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The Championship game will be played at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday night at Ocean View HS, and the Consolation Championship will be played at 5:00 p.m., sandwiching the Third Place game which will be at 6:30 p.m. Satuday night at Ocean View.
We've done several previews of the teams appearing, so if you're interested in a team, check the "H.S. Previews" section, or look at the Daily Articles "Game Results" articles for the past week to see how each team has done so far this season.
If you're going, be forewarned that the 405 Freeway, at virtually any time of the day, especially late afternoons and early evenings in and around Huntington Beach can be a real nightmare, so plan to leave well ahead of the game time (whoever said everything in SoCal is just 20 minutes away by freeway hasn't been on the 405 during rush hour).
Ocean View HS is located at 17071 Gothard Streed, in Huntington Beach. The easiest way to get there is to take the 405 Freeway, and exit at Golden West and proceed south to Warner and turn left into the school; alternatively, if the freeway is moving, or you're coming from the south, exit at the freeway at Warner, and go west to Golden West and turn right and proceed north; you'll see the school on your left. Here's a map for those who are directionally challenged:
Ocean View HS 17071 Gothard Street, Huntington Beach, CA (714) 848-0656 |
For the few games taking place at Mater Dei, there are several ways to get there, depending on traffic and road conditions. Here's another map, which is pretty self-explanatory:
Mater Dei HS 1202 West Edinger Avenue, Santa Ana, CA (714) 754-7711 |
We'll have more on the tournament and the results daily. See you there.
