Scores & Recaps: All
The Dec. 6 Games--(Dec. 7, 1999)
We've tried to get as many of the scores and details of games taking place all over the SoCal area as possible from yesterday, and we think we've gotten most of them. The recap for just the scores is listed first; details follow below. If you know of a score or a result we missed, send us an e-mail, or post it up on the message board. For the tournaments, they're organized alphabetically by the name of the tournament; for non-league games, the best we can do is organize them alphabetically using the first letter of the winning team.
We will continuously update this page throughout the day following the games, so if you don't see a score or the details, check back later. . .

Flintridge was led by Ben Kroop (6'-9" Sr. C) who scored 25 points and Bryan Young (5'-10" Jr. G) with 13. Buckley initially trailed 5-0 at the start of the game, but a free throw, a three by Clancy and two steals by Gale broke the game open, and Buckley led 25-14 at the end of the first quarter, and 37-29 at the half. Buckley broke out to lead 48-29 in the third, but then Flintridge made a run late in the third quarter, cutting the lead to just five, as both teams scored 16 in the quarter. But Buckley went with a trapping zone and outscored Flintridge (1-2) 23-14 in the final quarter. Buckley will match up today at 6:00 p.m. in a Division V-AA battle against Bell-Jeff.
Oakwood 52, Pilgrim 47-- Oakwood won the opener in this tournament behind the scoring of Nick Mark (6'-7" Jr. F/C) with 17 points and Stan Musgrave (6'-1" Jr. SG/SF) who had 17. Oakwood plays tonight at 7:30 p.m. against host Milken in the winner's bracket.
Bell Jeff 81, Paraclete 45--The outcome of this game was never in doubt as Bell-Jeff cruised to an easy first round win over a depleted Paraclete team which had just 7 players available to play due to Paraclete's continued involvement in the football playoffs (they're in the finals this Saturday). Bell Jeff was led by Carlos Arroyo's 22 points, mostly off of inside putbacks. Five other Bell-Jeff players scored in double figures: Casey Markovic had 10, Rommel Cabrerra had 11, Chris Gopez had 12, Bunning had 11, and Chavez had 10. Every available Bell-Jeff player scored. Paraclete was led by Evan Jeffries (5'-10" Jr. G) with 17, and Drew Gill (5'-10" So. G) who had 14. Bell-Jeff will play Buckley tonight in a second round semifinal game at 6:00 p.m.
Milken 74, AGBU 48--Milken easily defeated an undermanned AGBU team, and improved to 1-1 on the season. Bobby Bassman, Bobby Hendlish and Alex Raminfar all scored 13 points each and Daniel Danishvar scored 10 as Milken was never really tested in this first round game. Daniel Greenberg scored 6 and had 7 assists in the game. Milken led 27-8 at the end of the first quarter and it only got worse from there, and would have stayed bad had Milken not pulled the starters in the fourth quarter, which AGBU actually "won" 15-9. We stayed through the first half, and had then seen enough. . .so the scoring details come from the local papers. Milken will play Oakwood tonight in a second round semifinal game scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Milken.

Doyl Cole scored 23 points and had seven rebounds and D.J. Wyatt contributed nine points and 11 assists for Serra (3-0), which plays top-seeded Mater Dei on Thursday at 7 p.m.
Westchester 83, Servite 46--The Servite Friars couldn't handle the Comets' full-court press. Sophomore center Martin Iti scored 10 points for Servite. The Friars trailed 23-7 after the first quarter and were down by 25 at halftime. Guard Roger Hogan, one of the county's leading scorers last season when he played at Canyon, was held to just six points. Westchester of Los Angeles outscored the Friars by 16 points in the first quarter to cruise to the win. Martin Iti, a 6-foot-9 sophomore, scored 10 points and had five blocks to lead Servite (3-2). He was the only Servite player to reach double figures.
AB Miller 82, Morningside "A" 78 (OT)--With A.B. Miller trailing 71-69, Sean Lanzarotto became the hero when he hit two free throws with 9 seconds remaining in regulation to send the game with Inglewood Morningside into overtime. He became an even bigger hero when he hit two more free throws with 7 seconds left in overtime to put the game out of reach and gave the Rebels (2-1) an 82-78 win in the first round of the Ocean View Tournament of Champions held at Ocean View High School. Lanzarotto finished the night with 12 points, and was 8-for-8 at the free-throw line. Matt Clark led the Rebels in scoring with 28 points, including four 3-pointers, and Dennis Kingsland finished the night with 14 points for the Rebels. Wayne Trotter of Inglewood Morningside finshed with 28 points. A.B. MILLER (82) Ramirez 6, Pegram 15, Vernon 1, Lanzarotto 12, Clark 28, Ward 6, Kingsland 14. MORNINGSIDE (78) Kathy 7, Campbell 9, Waller 4, Trotter 28, Tatum 8, Young 10, Brisko 12. A.B. Miller 16 13 23 19 11 -- 82 Morningside 22 16 19 14 7 -- 78 Total fouls: ABM 22, M 24. Fouled out: Scott (ABM), Campbell (M), Young (M). Technical fouls: none.
Mater Dei 75, Savanna 44-- (Excerpted From the LA Times): Center Jamal Sampson had 15 points, 15 rebounds and seven blocked shots to lead the Monarchs past the Rebels, 75-44. Guard Steve Scoggin had 13 points and three assists, swingman Mike Strawberry had 12 points and six rebounds and guard Cedric Bozeman had 11 points and six assists. Each played a bit more than half the game. Forward Allan Purnell scored 13 points for Savanna. It was up to Purnell, forward Paul Nelson (four points) and a few others to try to defend the post area against the 6-foot-11 Sampson, who played well, particularly in the first quarter when his three dunks and three blocked shots were part of a barrage that put Mater Dei (2-0) ahead by as many as 16. Sampson followed his rebound and lay-in with another slam dunk late in the third quarter for a 46-22 lead and then Scoggin hit a jumper. Sampson, who played 19 minutes, jammed the ring finger of his right hand on the backboard late in the second quarter while going for a rebound and was icing it after the game. That's a concern because he spent most of last season out of the lineup because of hand and foot injuries. Savanna was outrebounded, 39-17, and made only 19 of 58 shots. Mater Dei Coach Gary McKnight said he thought Honell did the right thing by entering a tough tournament like the Tournament of Champions. "He put himself in a difficult position, but his team is going to get better and learn from it," McKnight said. "It's a step in the right direction and it's great to see an Orange County school do that." Sampson agreed. "They're not a bad team," he said. "Purnell is pretty good. He can penetrate and kick the ball out well."
