December 2 Game Results &
Tournament Scores--(Dec. 3, 1999)
We've tried to get as many of the scores and details of games taking place all over the SoCal area as possible from yesterday, and we think we've gotten most of them. If you know of a score or a result we missed, send us an e-mail, or post it up on the message board. For the tournaments, they're organized alphabetically by the name of the tournament; for non-league games, the best we can do is organize them alphabetically using the first letter of the winning team.

Fouled out: none. Technical fouls: none. The San Bernardino County Sun also carried a report on this game and an outlook on the Fontana team, written by Danny Summers, a sportswriter for the paper. Here's what the SB County Sun had to say: "Granted, the quality of Fontana's first three basketball opponents isn't that of traditional powers Mater Dei, Glendora and Artesia, but don't tell the Steelers that. The young Steelers are having fun, sharing the ball and playing the type of unselfish basketball fourth-year coach John McNally hoped it would. Thursday's 71-31 victory over Perris in front of about 250 fans at the Riverside North Tournament improved Fontana's record to 3-0 just four days into the season. The Steelers play host North in the semifinals at 7:30p.m. today. "I like what I see," McNally said. "We're playing really hard. They share the ball. They're unselfish. They play together. When you play together, it's contagious." Fontana has won its games by an average of 27.3 points. McNally cleared his bench against Perris (0-3), and the starting five of senior point guard Michael Stephenson, senior center Jordan Walker, sophomore forward Cory McJimson, freshman forward Trayvon Williams and freshman guard Trevante Nelson rarely were on the court at the same time much in the second half. McNally said if there was one negative to his team's fast start it would be with youth. "A lack of experience," he said. "Everybody may not know what to do at all times. But it's so early, we can be better in every way." Fontana trailed just once, 31 seconds into the game when Perris junior forward Taurean Miller scored a layup. Eight seconds later, Nelson drained two free throws to tie the game. Walker (game-high 23 points, nine rebounds) gave the Steelers a three-point lead at the 6:50 mark with a three-point play, and the rout was on. Fontana bolted to a 16-4 first-quarter lead as Williams controlled the boards by grabbing seven of his game-high 11 rebounds. He scored four points in the quarter, 12 in the game. "I'm enjoying myself," Williams said. "It's a wonderful feeling when you win. I knew we'd be a good team. I knew we would come out and do well. All this will get us ready for the (Citrus Belt League)." Perris hung tough in the second quarter, trailing 23-13 with 3:51 remaining after a three-pointer by junior guard Chris Johnson. But Walker answered with a three of his own 19 seconds later. "It's a lot of fun being around these young guys," Walker said. "We're playing well. I don't think it's so much us playing easy people as it is we're playing well." Fontana used a suffocating, full-court press and trap to dominate the Panthers in a fast-paced third quarter. Perris turned the ball over 12 times in the quarter, 26 overall, as Fontana took a commanding 50-20 lead. The only Perris points of the quarter were scored by 6-foot-7 junior center Jason Zimmer (eight points, eight rebounds). Fontana continued to increase its lead in the final quarter as McNally cleared his bench. He had only one starter in the game at any given time. Seldom-used senior forward Nick Johnson scored six points in the final two minutes."
