Upland To Play At Midland, Texas Tourney--(Dec. 25, 1998)

We got this not from Upland High School Coach Jeff Klein about a Texas tournament that Upland will be playing in starting Monday, December 28:

The Byron Johnston Classic in Midland Texas takes place Dec 28-30 at the Chaparell Center on the campus of Midland JC. Here are the teams in it:

Colony (Alaska)
A&M Consolidated (Texas)
Upland (California)
Amarillo (Texas)
South Garland (Texas)
El Paso Bel Air (Texas)
Midland (Texas)
Midland Lee (Texas)

Midland is the defending 5A large schools state champions. They are loaded with talent Charles Tatum (Arkansas), Jay Christian (Rice). Amarillo has Josh Faltsek (New Mexico). Upland has Steven Hamilton (Portland State) and rising senior Desmond Penigar. Upland opens up on Dec 28 at 1:45 vs Amarillo.

Hopefully Jeff will take his laptop with him so he can keep us updated on how the team does.  Good luck to all the guys from Upland.
