Sylmar Beats Green Valley--(Dec. 21, 1998)
Earlier this afternoon, Sylmar matched up against Green Valley, a local Vegas team, that looked pretty good, but came out on the wrong end of the scoring as Sylmar won 79-54. George Wrighster had a great game, scoring 10 points in the first half, 13 overall, on 5-9 shooting. Jeremiah Turner was the MVP of the game, scoring 14 points on 5 of 8 shooting from the field, 1 for 3 from three, and only 2-6 from the line (ouch), but he died grab 8 boards and picked up a steal as well in what was an otherwise capable performance. Other scoring was done by Brandon Jacobs, Sylmar's great point who had 12 points on 5 for 10 shooting from the filed, 1-4 from three. Joey Youman had 7 points, John Valdez had 9, Damion D'errico had 8, and Dallas Townsend had 6.
We spoke to Bort Escoto, who gave us the quote of the day: "Finally, we get to play a high school team. Now if we win our game against Rancho tonight, and Harvard-Westlake wins againts Reno Galena, we'll have both come 300 miles to play a game we could have played any day of the week."
We'll have more details on Sylmar later with the results of their second game in the consolation bracket againts Rancho, yet another local Vegas team. And since they won that game Monday night, that set up, of all things, a matchup agaisnt Harvard-Westlake, not exactly cross-town rivals, but they sure didn't need to travel 300 miles to play that game.
For now, here are some pics from the game.
