San Diego Nike National Prep Classic:
"National" Division Bracket & Schedule--(Dec. 25, 1998)

There are six brackets for the San Diego Nike National Prep Classic.  If you're trying to follow the progress of just a single team (e.g., you are a player, parent or just a fan of one team in particular) then you must know which bracket your team is in, because there are six brackets (5 for boys' teams and one for girls, not to mention some JC college games which are unbracketed).  Because the various brackets don't compete against one another, you'll need to separate the brackets discretely in order to determine your team's progress (or lack thereof). 

So we've tried to take the work out of it for you all and provided not only the brackets graphically, but also a schedule for each of the brackets.

There are two "best" divisions, the "National" Division and the "American" Divisions.  This is the National Division bracket and schedule  There are also brackets for the Governor's Cup "Pearl", "Diamond", and the Mayor's Cup "Ruby" and "Emerald" Divisions.  Remember, the tournament runs from Saturday December 26, through Wednesday (New Year's Eve), December 31, 1998, and the games will be held at 5 different locations, with the brackets playing games all over the place.  

The teams participating in this division are:

Christian Brothers (New Jersey), LA Manual Arts, University of San Diego High School, Simi Valley, Jesuit (Carmichael, CA), Glendora, Rancho Buena Vista, St. Dominics (Oyster Bay, NY), LA Crenshaw, Holmdel (NJ),  Robeson (Brooklyn, NY), Santa Monica Crossroads, Villa Park, and St. Anthony (Jersey City, NJ).

We really had trouble figuring out the bracketing for this tournament, but hopefully doing it with the games in order will help.   In addition to the hole created by the absence of teams for games  N5 and N6, you may also notice that there is no game scheduled for N21 and N22 which features the losers of games N13 & N14. We suspect that the numbering for the brackets got mixed up and that the games scheduled as N21 and N22 should really be numbered N23 & N24 (because that's the way they are in the American Division).  But we're just going with the schedules that we were given by the organizers of the event.  If they're wrong don't blame us.

One other curious note about the scheduling:  The winners and losers of game N3 between Jesuit and Glendora play on Saturday night but then don't play again until Tuesday, with the losers playing at 3:00 p.m., and the winners not playing again for what really amounts to three days (Sunday through Tuesday).  There are some other little oddities, not to mention the fact that unless two other teams are found to replace San Diego Horizon and St. Augustine from Louisiana, there will be a big hole in the tournament, such that one of the losers of Games N1, N2, N3 or N4 will automatically wind up in the 11th place game without an opponent, because the "winner" of game 20 simply bypasses the 11th place game to advance directly to the consolation championship.   Go figure.  Anyway, here's the schedule for the "National Division" only:
