47th Annual Pacific Shores Tourney:
Redondo Beats Morningside--(Dec. 6, 1998)

Our friend, John Tawa, who also writes for the Easy Reader, a beach cities (i.e., Hermosa Beach, Redondo, and Manhattan Beach) weekly newspaper, sent us the following results. We couldn't attend because of our prior commitment to cover the Wooden Classic (more on that coming, including a ton of pictures, which is what's really taking so long. . .just because they're digital, doesn't mean we don't have to "develop" them, by reducing in size, touching up color, etc.  Anyway the process is really pretty paintstaking at times. But that's another story.)  Here's John's report of the Tournament's Third Place game between host Redondo and Morningside:

Redondo beat Morningside 75-55 to claim 3rd place in the Pac Shores Tourney. Redondo used superior height and clutch shooting by 6-2 senior Titus Hunt to overcome Morningside's quickness and aggressive, ballhawking defense. After a tight first half, the Sea Hawks used three Hunt 3-pointers to build a 20 point lead.

Morningside got to within 12 in the 4th, but Redondo (3-1) was too tall. 6-5 Jr. Walter White's dunk sealed the win. white finished with 23 points and 10 boards. He's averaging 20.5 in Redondo's first 4 games. Zahn added 20 points and 18 rebounds. Hunt broke out of an early-season shooting slump with 14, all in the 2nd half. 6-6 So. point guard Dijon Thompson, a future star, had 11 points and 5 assists, while his backup, 5-9 freshman Keith Ellison had 7 assists. Whispers around Redondo say that Ellison, a football and baseball stud, may be the best EVER at redondo by the time he's through. Very heady.

We'll also be posting up a report on the Championship game shortly, which was won by Fairfax, who defeated Serra.
