Glendora Tournament From Tuesday--(Dec. 16, 1998)

Wow, it actually looks like we've managed to find most of the results from yesterday's games at the Glendora tournament.  And it also looks like Glendora didn't play yesterday, having played on Monday. Here's what happened Tuesday.

Brea Olinda 77, Montclair 51--Sophomore Ryan Moore scored 16 points to lead second-ranked Brea Olinda to a 77-51 victory over Montclair in the first round of the Glendora boys' basketball tournament.  Moore made eight of eight free throws for Brea (5-1). Teammate Kyle Dodd scored 15 points and had nine assists. Sophomore Landon Lewis scored 12 points on four three-pointers and Jerett Skrifvars had 13 points and 14 rebounds.

San Marcos 61, Duarte 34--Football star Bradlee Van Pelt had 10 points and eight rebounds as San Marcos opened the Glendora Tournament with a win. The Royals, 2-3, play Brea-Olinda Thursday in a rematch of last year's CIF quarterfinal won by Brea-Olinda. Van Pelt, who played his first varsity basketball game Monday, was among a group of Royals reserves who got extensive playing time after San Marcos jumped to a big early lead (29-6 at halftime). All 11 Royals scored. Coach Chris Hantgin also cited Danny Grace for solid play off the bench. Durate scoring was by Murphy with 8, W. Jones 10, Greene 12, C.Jones 2, M. Carter 2. San Marcos scoring was by McGann 3, Moharram 3, Alliano 8, Van Pelt 10, Mann 5, Putnam 5, Grace 3, Craig 3, Casias 9, James 7, and Nance 4.

San Dimas 72, Huntington Park 34-- Josh Smith scored 16 points and pulled down 16 rebounds, and D.J. Hackett added nine of his 15 points in the second quarter to lead the Saints (5-0) to a victory in the first round at Glendora High School. David Malana added three 3-pointers and had five assists for the Saints, who will play Diamond Bar in the quarterfinals Thursday at 8:20 p.m.

Diamond Bar 72, Etiwanda 65-- Kevin Turner scored 19 points and Brian Pichon added 18 points as the Brahmas (4-2) beat the Eagles in first round at Glendora. Diamond Bar faces San Dimas in Thursday's 8:20 p.m. quarterfinals.
