Freshmen Maccabi Players
Make Debut This Week--(Dec. 3, 1998)

Three players from the same Maccabi gold medal team all made their freshmen debuts this week:

Craig Weinstein (5'-10" Fr. SG/PG) played about half of his first varisty game in Harvard-Westlake's  win over Moorpark, and Eric Sondheimer of the LA Times said of him following the game that he "added some impressive ball-handling" to the team.  Craig played this fall at the Double Pump Fall Hoops Discovery Shootout, and won a gold medal in Detroit with the Orange County Maccabi team.

David Gale (5'-10" Fr. PG) from Buckley's varsity played well in two games this week and a scrimmage last week ,  first in an impressive win over Glendale Academy where he scored 10 points and had six steals, then in a 66-33 win over AGBU at Buckley, where he only scored 3 points but dished out 7 assists, and then at Price where he played great defense and ran the offense for about half the game as the first man off the bench.

Finally, perhaps the best performance of all was by Will Sheslow (6'-0" Fr. SG/PG), who transferred to Montclair Prep this year, and started for the Mounties in their win over Milken.  Sheslow scored 16 points and dished out 6 assists, Sheslow also plays for Rockfish and was named by the adidas' Blue Ribbon College Basketball Yearbook as one of only 6 freshmen in California to be named "Honorable Mention All-American."

Gale and Weinstein also played on the same ARC club team, and this fall all three players participated in the Double Pump Fall Hoops Shootout, with Gale and Weinstein playing for the Valley Slam team which also featured UMKC-bound Chris Williams (6'-8" Sr. C),  Cody Pearson (6'-2" So. G) from Notre Dame, Jason Morrisette (6'-4" Jr. SG/SF) from Fairfax, and Chris Bennett (6'-8" Sr. F) who is also being recruited by UMKC. Others on that team also included several other former Maccabi players, such as Darren Tarlow (6'-4" Sr. F) from Chaminade, Adam Allegro (6'-4" So. SG/SF) from Agoura, and Matt Bendick (5'-10" So. PG/SG) from Palisades, who is thinking of competing for the US Maccabi Team which will play in Mexico City at the Pan American Games this summer.   Sheslow participated in the Fall Discovery Shootout and then traveled to Fresno for the EBO Tournament with his Rockfish team.

Congratulations guys.
