Mayfair Wins Buena Park Coyote
Classic Tournament--(Dec. 6, 1998)
First, here's what happened Friday in the semifinals of this tournament:
Buena Park 60, Saddleback 43: The host
Coyotes improved to 3-0 on the year with the win, and moved on to face Mayfair in the
championship game of the Coyote Classic. Saddleback dropped to 0-3 on the year.
Forward Matt Okoro scored 24 points and 10 rebounds to lead Buena Park in scoring and guard
DeAndre Gipson added another 11 points and five assists for BP.
Rancho Alamitos 75, Kennedy 71 (OT)--Rancho Alamitos improved to 2-1 and won in
overtime over the Kennedy Fighting Irish who dropped to 1-2. Guard Willie Montgomery
scored a game-high 31 points to lead Rancho Alamitos.

Championship Game:
Mayfair 63, Buena Park 36: The Monsoons captured the tournament championship with a win over the Coyotes (3-1), behind sophomore forward Josh Childress, who was named the tourney's MVP after scoring 17 points and pulling down seven rebounds. Andre Walters scored 12 points and sophomore point guard Eric Draughan also made the all- tournament team after recording 10 points and seven rebounds for the Monsoons who improved to 4-0.
Third Place Game
Downey 73, Rancho Alamitos 44: Willie
Montgomery scored a game-high 24 points, but the Vaqueros (2-2) lost the third-place game
of the Coyote Classic. Downey improved to 3-1. Senior Frank Velazquez had 17 points
and JaMar Eubanks scored 16 of his own to lead the Vikings (3-1) over the Vaqueros at
Buena Park High.
