Costa Mesa Tournament
Pool Play Results--(Dec. 10, 1998)
All we could find on this one was box scores from which we tried to reconstruct what happened. For some reason, none of the local papers was following this one, no stories, no articles. And we also don't know what happened to the Tuesday games. If we find them, we'll update this report.
Monday
Los Amigos 52, Costa Mesa 49-- Center Jesse Carrillo had 19 pints and 13 rebounds to lead the Lobos to the win in first round action. Los Amigos improved to 2-1 while Costa Mesa fell to 0-3. Scoring for Costa Mesa was led by Ferryman with 12, Payne 7, Jones 12, Whitaker 6, Weir 4, Hatsushi 5 and Rice 3. For Los Amigos Hurtado had 6, Sanchez 2, Arcos 19, Chau 3, Frazier 2 and Vu 1.
Foothill 68, Marina 65-- Foothill was led by Bigler's 12, Bruford's 13 and Smith's 11. Rasmussen had 8, Evans 4, Weir 6, and Romero 3. For Marina Brown had 21, Masada 3, Kaatz 22, Robles 2, Rivera 3, DeLuca 4, Clay 4 and Vo 6.
Buena Park 55, Saddleback 43-- Matt Okoro had 10 rebounds and five blocked shots for the Coyotes in the win. Buena Park improved to 4-1 while Saddleback dropped to 1-4.
Mission Viejo 74, Westminster 63--Travis Neisen scored a game high 19 points to lead the Diablos in the first round win over Westminster. Other scoring for Mission Viejo was: Engstrom 1, Floyd 8, Setanitsas 3, Ulrich 2, Million 4, Sheieh 6,
Wednesday
Marina 65, Mission Viejo 60--Beau Brown was 4 of 5 from behind the three-point line and had 14 points to lead the Vikings to a pool play victory. Marina is now 4-2 on the season.
Buena Park 49, Los Amigos 40-- Deandre Gipson had 8 rebounds and three blocked shots to go along with his 18 points as he led the Coyotes (5-1) to the win. Matt Okoro added eight rebounds for Buena Park, which will face Costa Mesa on Friday night in the final round of pool play.
Foothill 102, Westminster 74-- Alex Rassmussen scored 28 points and Chad Bigler added 24 to lead the Knights, who also got 12 assists from Drew Buford. Foothill's scoring was Bigler 24, Buford 16, Rasmussen 28, Reed 2, Evans 4, Weir 8, Robbins 4, Smith 12, Henderson 4. Westminster's scorers were Walton 18, Miranda 11, Nguyen 4, Le 12, Romos 3, Soto 4, Pescador 4, Barron 12 and Trinh 6.
Saddleback 46, Costa Mesa 35--Terrell Foster was eight of 11 from the free-throw line for the roadrunners. foster scored 18 points, Grivas 1, Gonzalez 7, Shiels 4, Romero 2, Hughes 14. Costa Mesa was led by Weir with 7, Hatsushi 2, Rice 9, Whittaker 3, Jones 6, Ferryman 6, and Payne 2.
