Century Tournament Results: Sketchy At Best-- (Dec.10, 1998)

We don't know all the teams in this one, and we've only been able to piece together partial results, but then something is better than nothing.  We don't have a schedule, just what was printed in the Orange County Register, which simply said "TBA".  Ok.  Here goes:

Monday (First Round)

Estancia 66, La Mirada 59: Tim Pickett scored 16 points and Aza Villalobos had 15 but it wasn't enough, as the Matadores lost to the Eagles in the season-opening game for both teams in pool play action at Century High.

Corona Del Mar 69, Valencia 58--Eskias McDaniels had a career-high 27 points and 15 rebounds but turnovers cost Valenica (2-1) in the opening round of the Century tournament.

Tuesday (Second Round)

Orange Lutheran 41, Century 34--Jason Whieldon scored 18 points, had nine rebounds and six assists to lead Orange Lutheran (3-1) in a pool-play victory. Dustin Smith added 12 points for the Lancers, who led, 25-13, at the half.

San Clemente 78, Whittier Christian 61-- Brian George scored a game high 22 pons to lead the Triaons, who played La Mirada on Wednesday.   Jon Stoa, who had some nice performances this past summer at the Double Pump West Coast All-Star Camp,  managed 20 points for WC in the losing effort.

Wednesday (Third Round):

Valencia 58, Century 50--Royce Minor scored 11 of his 18 points in the fourth quarter and the Vikings won in pool play of the Century tournament.  Minor and Eskias McDaniels, who had 21 points, 10 rebounds and five blocked shots, helped the Vikings (3-1) pull away after Century tied the score, 37-37, at the end of the third quarter.  Mike Zepeda (6'-10" Sr. C) scored 33 points for Century (1-3).

Corona Del Mar 64, Orange Lutheran 45--Kevin Hansen scored 19 points and Brandon Crosby added another 16 to lead the Sea Kings who will play Century on Friday at 6:00 p.m.

San Clemete 81, La Mirada 37-- There really was not a lot that was noteworthy about this game except to say that San Clemente really killed La Mirdada. Pierce, Tatala, and Garrett all had 11 for San Clemeted, which imporved to 2-1, and Cruz scored 12.

Estancia 59, Whittier Christian 58-- Jon Stoa scored 18 in the the losing effort.  John Cantrelo scored on a layup with 45 seconds left as the Eagles edged WC. Cantrelo, Valbuena and Chandler each had 12 for Estancia. Both teams are 2-2 on the year with the game result.
