Highland 66, Compton Centennial 62--Darrell Gardner had 12 points and 13 rebounds
to lead Highland past Compton in the first round of the Buchanan Tournament Thursday
night. Tyron Taylor had 10 points for Highland (2-1), including a pair of foul shots with
11 seconds left that put the game away.
Wasco 62, Avenal 54--Daniel Hardin scored nine of his
14 points in the third quarter to help Wasco take a lead and the Tigers advanced to the
semifinals of the Corcoran tournament Jacob Cruz scored 24 points to lead Wasco (2-0),
which will play Corcoran tonight at 8.
Garces 101, Anaheim 88--Josh Atkins scored 32 points to lead the Rams past Anaheim
in the first round of the Orange-Lutheran High School Tournament.
Atascadero 49, Ridgeview 46--Torey Harper had 13 points, Daryn Faber scored 10 and
David Diaz scored nine for the Wolf Pack in the first-round game of the eight-team Morro
Bay Tournament. Ridgeview (0-1) plays Santa Maria at 3:30 p.m. today in the second round.
Santa Maria lost to South in a first-round game.
East 64, Laguna Hills 60, OT-- East High's Robert Johnson made a pair of foul shots
with four seconds left in overtime to seal a 64-60 victory over Laguna Hills in the first
round of the San Luis Obispo Tournament. Laguna Hills tied the game on a 3-pointer with
two seconds remaining in regulation. Steve Carter scored both of East's overtime field
goals and finished with a game-high 20 points. Marquese Jingles had 19 points for the
Blades, who made their season debut. East plays Napa Valley at 6:30 tonight in the
tournament semifinals.
