USC Recruiting Updates: Zahn,
Brunner, Stokes, Bradley--(Nov. 5, 1999)
Today's edition of the Daily News and the Long Beach Press-Telegram both featured the same story on USC basketball written by Scott Wolf, the beat reporter assigned to USC sports. Scott had some interesting news about the Trojans recruiting, some of it new (about Nick Enzweiler), some of it not so new (Desmon Farmer's commitment). Here's what Wolf wrote:
"Recruiting update: USC is awaiting a decision from 6-9 forward Andrew Zahn of Redondo High. Zahn is also considering Oregon State. USC has stopped recruiting 6-6 small forward Nick Enzweiler of Moraga.
"The Trojans have received one commitment from highly touted shooting guard Desmon Farmer of Flint, Mich. USC has three scholarships available this season.
"USC is heavily recruiting two Compton College players for the spring signing period -- point guard Kevin Bradley and small forward Anthony Reason."
Wolf's article does not discuss (perhaps significantly, perhaps innocently) any continued recruitment by the Trojans' of Wesley Stokes (5'-11" Sr. PG) from Long Beach Poly, who has been most prominently mentioned in connection with Missouri, Oregon State, Texas, and USC, nor is there any further mention of Kenny Brunner, who is doing phenomenally well at the College of Southern Idaho (JC). According to other sources (specifically Bob Gottlieb), if Brunner does not get sufficient interest from USC (i.e, the Athletic Office doesn't clear him for admission to USC), San Diego State is ready to take up the battle for the very talented but (formerly?) troubled point guard, notwithstanding that Fisher already has two pretty talented point guards in David Abramowitz (6'-0" So. PG) from USDHS and Bradley Jackson (5'-11" Fr. PG) from Inglewood (via prep school).
More on Zahn: Tracy Pierson at PacWestHoops had some interesting quotes from Zahn about Oregon State the rest of his recruitment today. Zahn told Pierson that he is giving a "slight edge" right now to Oregon State over USC and Washington State, but he hasn't eliminated any schools. Zahn also said that UCLA has asked him to wait until spring to sign, but he has not decided whether he'll sign early next week, or wait.
