More On Wesley Stokes'
Recruiting & Status--(Nov. 1, 1999)

This morning we had a chance to speak with Ron Palmer, the head coach at Long Beach Poly, and he filled us in a bit on Wesley Stokes' recruiting.   "Right now he's still considering several schools, including Missouri, USC, Oregon State and Texas.   But candidly, the school that he's been talking the most about in the last few days is Missouri.  I think all the schools are still in it, and he hasn't yet made up his mind, but he may be leaning towards Missouri the strongest," Palmer told us.

Coach Palmer also told us, as mentioned in our preview of Long Beach Poly, that Wesley has not yet fully qualified. "He's about one point away from fully making it with his GPA, and needs just to slightly improve his test score.   He's enrolling in an SAT prep class and will be working on that soon."

Apparently Wesley was also injured this past weekend, and the effect it will have on him is something that won't be clear for the next few days, said Coach Palmer. "Wesley wass playing on Saturday morning in the Warehouse Shoe Sale Tournament at Carson High. In a game against Mayfair, he sprained his ankle, but he shook it off, and came back and played two more games.  Then the next day, in a game against a combined squad of players from Bishop Montgomery and Serra (the Cravens, Aerick Sanders, etc), Wesley sprained his other ankle."  According to Palmer, the second sprain was "pretty bad," and he could be out for a week to 10 days, maybe longer. "We're taking him to a doctor to have the ankles examined today, so we really won't know anything until later," Coach Palmer told us. "But knowing Wesley, I don't think this will keep him down very long."
