Orange League Overview--(Nov. 26, 1999)
There are more schools in the Southern Section than we can possibly hope to preview in a single season, even if we worked from sunup 'til sundown, every day from now until the end of March when the State Championship games will be played. But thankfully, the local media, specifically the Orange County Register has thoughtfully been publishing their own league previews, which have included some roster information, overall won-loss records, and season outlooks for each team in the leagues they've featured. So rather than reinvent the wheel, we're going to use the information provided by the Register, and essentially give you their previews (which were not posted on the Register's website), with such other and further informatoin as we might possess about players, teams and prospects for the year. In fact we've already done a much more in-depth feature preview of Brea Olinda, so we won't be redoing that one, but the Register stuff has been very helpful.
The Orange League was reviewed by Richard Manfredi. We're not certain whether he picked the predicted order of league finish, or whether he had help from others on the Register staff who have done other league previews (so far it's Steve Fryer, Chris Zupke, and Damian Dottore), but in any event, we'll just attribute the order of finish to the Register in general.
Here's the Register's predicted order of finish:
Orange League 1999-2000
Brea
Olinda
Savanna
Anaheim
Magnolia
Valencia
Western
The links above will take you to some 'mini-previews' which include info from the Register and other stuff we know about, but they are admittedly scanty. We haven't had time to contact the coaches, and likewise, haven't seen the LA Times Orange County Edition league preview for the Orange League either (if it was published, we just happened to miss it; we have seen the other previews from the Times for the other Orange County Leagues, and we'll have those merged with the Register previews shortly). We also may update these "mini" profiles and previews during the year, and then again, we might not. Still, even if they are short or admittedly incomplete, they're better than nothing, so enjoy.
