SoCalHoops Recruiting News
Where's Waldo: Photos
At Fullcourt Press--(Nov. 11, 1999)
The Fullcourt Press website is now up and running, and besides the SoCal player rankings by class (freshmen, sophomores, juniors, seniors, and JUCO's), there are also a number of other features, including links to a new feature, a column to be written by Etop Udo Ema, call "The Dunk News," which is going to focus on the California and Arizona High School and Junior College scene. Etop played his college ball at UC Irvine, and he's been instrumental in working with Rod Palmer, the former Compton coach and now the coach at Compton Centennial on events such as the Reebok Compton Tip-Off Classic, and has also published his own small newsletter which he's been sending to college coaches for the last year or two, called "The Dunk!" which features news and tidbits on players, teams, and recruiting from California and Arizona.
So it's not that surprising or unusual that he and Dinos Trigonis would have teamed up for Fullcourt Press Online. But we were surprised to see one of the photographs being used at the site. Here it is:
Now look closely at the bottom row of the picture. Just above the two banners (one says "Fullcourt Pr. . ." next to a banner for "Belmont Shore Basketball") is the press row. Notice anyone familiar? Maybe, maybe not. Besides showing David Hamilton (Auburn) formerly of Compton HS dunking the ball at the Nike Dream Classic at UCLA's Pauley Pavilion, if you examine the picture closely, you'll see a couple of familiar faces in press row: Right in the middle, sort of between Hamilton's feet, is a picture of the bearded and uncoiffed (is that even a word?) Michael A. Miller, who at the time was busy writing for WestCoastHoops (he's now busy writing for himself, or rather for a studio, and now that he's finished with Joan of Arc, he's reportedly working on a story about the Richmond High, CA, basketball team and the coach who benched his team for not acheiving a high enough GPA). Just to Mike's left (to the right in the picture) is Louis Johnson, of the Long Beach Press Telegram; at the far right of the picture is Frank Burlison (Orange County Register), and way to the left, is somebody we just don't recognize at all. Can you identify this person? We've just got to know. . .
We can't wait for the rest of the pictures guys. . . Oh, and if you recognize any others (or can find Waldo) in the picture, let us know. You may even win a prize. . .
