Starts Today--(Nov. 23, 1998)
The "We Care Classic, " the first tournament of the year, takes place at Manual Arts today, and runs November 23, 24, 25 & 27 (they skip Thanksgiving). The tournament this year will feature some great City Section teams, including LA High (Scottie Stern, Brian Segbefia, Roger Flowers) Fremont ( Willie Dunn, Jeffrey Roberson, Devin Houston, Donte Limbrick,) Gardena, Monroe, San Pedro, LA Jordan, and Hollywood ( Leon Robbins, Vahe Melikyan, Jamaal Simpson, Eric Hall, Eric Smith, Gerald Collins, Kenneth Johnson) in addition to Manual (Johnny Hardwick, Larry Dillingham, Ronald Cass, Brandon Moorer, Earl Felix, Luis Rodriguez, Deandre Morris, Jason Crow).
Pool play will take place first three days and games begin at 4:00 p.m. (or so we were told last month. . . check with the school before heading out there) and the second game we're told will be at 5:30 each day. Playoffs begin on Friday, and games will be at 12:00, 2:00, 4:00 and 6:00 p.m., with the Championship game on Friday the 27th at 6:00 p.m..
This is a great chance to see Manual, a potential City Champion, in early action, and the best part of this tournament is that all the proceeds go toward feeding the homeless. You don't want to miss this one. See you there.
