A Venice Update: Rasheed Hazard
Is The New Assistant--(Nov. 18, 1998)
Geez, we ran into a ton of folks last night at the USC game. Among them was Coach Dave Goosen from Venice High, perhaps the most improved team in City Section this year, who was there with several of his players (Glen McGowan (6'-8" Sr. PF) among them) and he wanted to thank everyone who contacted him last month when we ran the story about the cancellation of one Venice's December tournament entries. Thanks to one of those callers, Venice will now be entered in the Crescenta Valley Tournament which will run from Tuesday December 15 through Friday December 18 at Crescenta Valley High School
And Dave also was excited to tell us about his new assistant coach this season, Rasheed Hazard, the son of former UCLA great and coach Walt Hazard. Rasheed is a graduate of George Washington University where he played for three years. "I predict that Rasheed will be a Division I college coach within the next five years," Goosen said. "He just understands the game so well, and when he's not working with our team, he's over observing UCLA and several other local colleges, just absorbing everything."
We'll be looking for Rasheed and for Venice as the season opens.
