A Tyson Chandler Sighting,
And The Bruins Drool--(Nov. 19, 1998)

Tyson Chandler (7'-0" So. C) was at the UCLA game tonight with Keith Brooks (6'-6" Jr. F) and the fans were buzzing about this really tall kid, and wondering whether he was just there to see a game, or whether he really had any interest in UCLA for the future.  Of course, it's really way too early for Tyson, but he told us "I'd love to come to UCLA.  I grew up here, and everyone dreams of coming to UCLA. "  When Keith Brooks was asked whether he'd want to be a Bruin, his eyes lit up too, and he said, "Yeah, are you kidding."   Hey coach Lavin, are you listening?  Of course he's listening, and in three years, there won't be a school in the country who won't be all over The Franchise, but we're going to go out on a limb here:  If they offer, he will come.

We actually got to spend a bit of time with Tyson during and after the game, and he's really a very pleasant young man, with a great attitude. He said he's having a great time getting ready for the season, and his ankle injury that he sustained early at Nike Camp has completely healed, and he's at 100% now. "I'm really looking forward to playing now. After the summer I was a bit burned out, but now we're all ready to get back and play."

Other sightings tonight:

Jeff Young, Chaminade head coach, on Scott Borchardt (6'-9" So. F/C): "He's ready to play.  We've got a few scrimmages this coming week, and we play Serra, and that should be a good test for our guys.   J.J. is looking better than ever and we're anxious to get going."    Jeff, like a lot of folks at the Bruin game at Pauley had just come over from Pepperdine where they watched the Waves beat Fresno State 78-71.  Wow.

You could  have started an NBA game tonight with the pro players, former players, and coaches in the stands:    Reggie Miller, Tracy Murray, Kiki Vandewegh, Bill Walton, Mike Dunleavy, Jerry West, and on and on.  Start the season. Hurry.
