Tito Maddox Update: Still Wide Open--(Nov. 18, 1998)
Last night at the USC game we had a chance to talk briefly with Tito Maddox (6'-4" Sr. PG/SG) who we bumped into at halftime in one of the food lines and we learned that notwithstanding previous reports that Tito has committed to ASU, he apparently is still wide open: "Michigan, UConn, Arizona State, they're all still in it," Tito told us.
We also saw Tito after the game walking toward the locker room, and given the performance by the young freshmen and newcomers on the Trojan team last night, we asked him what he thought about USC, and he said, "'SC? Don't think so." But he then smiled, laughed, and said "Maybe." Well, we're pretty sure he was just kidding about the latter, but while USC is currently out of scholarships (with the signings of Hair and Minor) it's not inconceivable that someone might not return next year, and if another scholarship did happen to open up, Tito would be an excellent choice, another immediate impact player on this young team provided he can qualify (we hear he has qualified, despite rumors to the contrary about his transcripts that surfaced with UConn last month). Whether Tito would consider USC though is anyone's guess, and the only thing that's apparently certain with Tito at the present is that things are very uncertain.
