More Clarification On Tito Maddox--(Nov. 11, 1998)
We've been reading a lot about the confusion surrounding Tito Maddox. We've seen reports on the internet purporting to quote Tito's father, saying things to the effect that "Tito has not committed to ASU, but will sign with UConn" or that he will wait until spring to sign.
Our sources over at Compton High tell us though that Tito does not speak with his father, and that his father is not at all involved in his recruiting. Tito lives with his aunt who is his legal guardian and will or will not be the one to sign an LOI. And our sources also tell us that Tito has told all of the coaches at Compton that he has committed to ASU.
Which is the real story is something that only Tito knows for sure, and he's just not talking about it right now. One thing is certain though, and that is that ASU has received committments and (by the time you read this) may have received signed LOI's from all of the other players from whom they have received previous verbals (with the exception of Chris Osborne, who is still wavering a bit).
In fact, Donnell Knight (6'-6" Sr. SG/SF) held a press conference today at his high school where he formally announced his committment and the signing of an LOI. We expect that in the next few days, we'll be receiving official word from the school that they've received the letters. Until they do, however, NCAA rules prohibit the school from commenting on whether or not a player has committed to attend. Stay tuned.
