UC Riverside Gets LOI's From Clark & Zepeda--(Nov. 16, 1998)
We just got word from Rusty Smith and Jeff Hopkins at UC Riverside that they've received two LOI's within the past few days. The first is no big surprise: Chris Clark (6'-6" Sr. SG/SF) from Glendora who had verbally committed a few weeks ago, has now signed. This is just a huge signing for Riverside, and it will help them tremendously as they move to the Division I level.
The other LOI is from Mike Zepeda (6'-9" Sr. C) from Century High School in Santa Ana. The coaches at Riverside believe that Mike has tons of potential, and will be a very good D-I player. He's a big, strong guy who is a tenacious rebounder, with good post up moves and nice footwork, and he's got a reasonably good shooting touch. Mike didn't get all that much visibility this summer, playing for Bob Gottlieb's BWBA for a while in the late spring and early summer, then dropping out of sight. Mike was also looking at Northern Arizona, and we suspected that he'd sign early with one of the two schools when we did our selections of the "Top Five Men" in SoCal in early October.
Riverside is off to a great start on it's first D-I recruiting class. They've got one more scholarship left to give, and will undoutedly wait until spring. For now though, we want to send them, and Chris and Mike our congratulations.
