Marcus Moore Transfer Upheld;
Declared
Eligible To Play At Dominguez--(Nov. 15, 1998)
Marcus Moore (6'-5" Sr. PG/SG/SF), who starred as the point guard last year at Redondo Union High and who was expected to help them to a D-I title, has been declared eligible to play this year for the Compton Dominguez Dons after transferring at the end of the summer. There was a lot of controversy about the transfer, and Redondo refused to sign his transfer approval, which led to an investigation by the CIF. While all the details are not known at this time, Redondo alleged that Dominguez had employed undue influence on Marcus in persauding him to transfer.
However, a CIF Southern Section committee looking into the matter has determined that there was not sufficient evidence to support the claim of undue influence, and has upheld the transfer. We don't have any other details than that for now, but this is big news for Dominguez.
Dominguez, which competes in Division II, was already loaded at the point guard spot, which raises the question of why a player who is so obviously talented would want to transfer to a school where he is new to the system and his playing time might be reduced. Is Dominguez a "higher profile" program? We don't really know the answer to that, but evidently Marcus thought that his chances of winning a championship and getting a college scholarship were better at Dominguez than at Redondo. Whatever the reasons, now that the transfer has been upheld, we're sure to be hearing Redondo's side of the story, which until now Redondo personnel have not wanted to disclose due to the prior investigation.
