Mike Dunleavy, Sr. On Duke--(Nov. 19, 1998)

We got a chance to talk briefly with Mike Dunleavy, Sr. again tonight at the UCLA v. Santa Clara game, almost a followup to our lengthy conversation this summer during the Double Pump West Coast All-Star Camp when Mike, Jr., was still wide open. Michael Sr., was glad that his son finally settled on a school and was very pleased with the choice of Duke. "I'm very happy for him, and he'll get a great education there and have the chance to really contribute to a great college program.

When we asked him about whether he had mixed emotions about Duke, and told him about the rumors which have circulated for months about him (Michael Sr.) favoring UNC, that he reportedly wanted his son to go to UNC instead of Duke, he said, "Yeah, I've heard that stuff too. Where do people come up with this stuff? That's absolutely not true. The choice was Mike's all along, and he chose the school where he's most comfortable. It was up to him and I'm perfectly happy that he'll be at Duke."
