Okay, So Augustine Was At The
USC Game Saturday--(Nov. 16, 1998)

We've received just a ton of letters informing us that we must have been blind because not only didn't we see Kevin Augustine on the bench at the USC exhibition game on Saturday, but we also didn't examine the picture we took of David Bluthenthal which clearly has Kevin sitting on the bench in street clothes.

Ok, mea culpa, mea culpa, a thousand pardons.   Kevin was at the game, and it looks like he'll be back in practice today, at least according to a report this morning in the LA Times, which noted that the "sophomore point guard, expected to start this season, took a leave of absence for personal reasons two weeks ago."

According to the story in the Times today, Kevin said, "There were never any problems with my teammates, no problems with my coaches. After you play 12 years of basketball, you have to sit down and ask yourself, 'Is this something that I want to continue doing?'  I needed some time away to refocus on the things I want to accomplish with this team. . . . the career choices I want to make with my life."

The Times also said that Coach Henry Bibby believes Augustine will probably dress for the season opener against San Diego State on Tuesday night, but will play behind Brandon Granville and Quincy Wilder.  According to the Times story, Kevin also acknowledged he's now slipped on the depth chart: "I don't know how much I'll play on Tuesday," Augustine said. "Coach already said that if I get back into practice and get some repetitions, I'll be able to be right back in there again."

The game is on Tuesday at the Sports Arena. Tip-off time is 7:00 p.m.  See you there.
