Jake Dederer Commits To UMKC--(Nov. 3, 1998)
Jake Dederer (6'-9" Sr. F) from Rolling Hills Estates Peninsula High, has verbally committed to coach Bob Sundvold (who was also given a contract extension Monday to the year 2002) at the University of Missour-Kansas City. Dederer was looking at several other schools, but apparently decided he liked UMKC after taking an official visit there this weekend. About three weeks ago we reported that Chris Williams (6'-9" Sr. F) from Sherman Oaks Notre Dame committed, and apparently the committment by Dederer may bring into question the pending offer which we understand was made by UMKC to Chris Bennett (6'-10" Sr. F/C) from Pasadena Marshall Fundamental.
Recruiting USA has reported that UMKC has already received two other commitments, one from Michael Watson (6'-0" Sr. PG) from Central HS in Kansas City, MO, and another from Herb Brown (6'-9" Jr. C/PF) from Penn Valley JC, in Kansas. And Recruiting USA also reports that Corey Jones (6'-5" Sr. SG) from North Little Rock High in North Little Rock, Arkansas, will also visit this coming weekend, and "may be close to committing".
The team has six seniors this season, so they could actually pick up three 6'-9" guys (Williams, Dederer & Brown) and one 6'-10" guy (Bennett), and still be able to swing Watson and Jones. Talk about recruiting complete team, Sundvold would have to be one of the best recruiters around if he gets all six of these guys. No wonder they gave him a contract extension.
