Fullerton JC Classic: Saddleback

Palomar Beats Fullerton--(Nov. 21, 1998)
At the Fullerton College Classic last night, Saddleback JC edged L.A. Valley College men's team, 73-69, in a semifinal game. Donzell Hayes scored 18 points and four steals, and four other Saddleback players finished in double figures. Hayes also had four steals. Saddleback was behind 32-30 at the half, but then came back and outscored the Monarchs 43-37 in the second half. Other hot hands for Saddleback last night were Vernon Jackson, who finished with 17 points and 7 rebounds; Andre Jackson had 12, and Semaj Johnson had 11 points, including going 3-3 from behind the arc. Saddleback is now 3-2 on the season, and will face Palomar tonight in the Championship game at 7:00 p.m. Valley will play Fullerton in the third place game at 5:00 p.m. with the loss to Palomar in the other semifinal game.
Palomar beat Fullerton, 72-68 in that other game. Fullerton shot miserably in the first half, going only 8-26 from the field (30%), and trailed 40-22 at halftime. Their shooting was a lot better in the second half, but not good enough, 47% on 18-38 from the field. Jerry McNair led Fullerton, which is now 3-2 on the season, with 19 points, hitting 8 of 10 shots, including three of five from three-point distance. Rashaun Thomas had 16, and Larry Felder hit for 14 points and an impressive 12 rebounds
