CIF Southern Section
Releaguing Completed--(Nov. 10, 1998)

The CIF Southern Section releaguing, which was completed earlier this year, is now reflected in our "High Schools" pages on the SoCal Teams & Leagues page.  The largest releaguing concerned the entirely revamped Ocean and Bay Leagues in the Coast Area South Bay Athletic Association, which has releagued in multiple configurations depending upon the sport.  Of course, the basketball configurations are the ones listed here.  

A number of other significant releaguing occurred, including the creation of an entirely new league, the Pacific View League, featuring several teams from the Channel League (which is now down to only five teams) and the addition of Moorpark to the Marmonte League.

There was a lot of minor reconfiguring of teams in the Orange County Area among the Century, Empire, Freeway, Garden Grove, Orange, Pacific Coast, Seaview, South Coast, Sunset and Golden West leagues.  There was also some minor adjustments made to the Desert Area Leagues, including the Desert Mountain, Desert Valley, High Desert, Hi-Lo and Imperial Valley leagues.  Not much changed in the Foothill Area leagues, but there were minor adjustments and movement of teams between the Almont, Del Rio, Foothill, Golden, Mission Valley, Pacific, Rion Hondo, San Gabriel Valley and Suburban leagues.   There was also a bit of movement of teams in the Mt. Sac Area among the Baseline, Miramont, Montview (which used to be called the Mountain View), Mt. Baldy, Sierra and Valle Vista leagues.

And finally, the number of schools participating as freelance schools in the southern section is down by about 20 from last year as the leagues fill up, with most of the former freelance schools joining the "Small School" leagues, including the Academy, Agape, Alpha, Arrowhead, Christian, Delphic (which now has Montclair Prep), Express, Freedom, Heritage, Liberty, Metro, Olympic, Prep, Valley and Victory leagues.

The current league configurations are good for the most part until 2002.
