Cathedral City Tournament
Dec. 7-9, 11-12--(Nov. 29, 1998)
We just got word of yet another tournament which was not included in our December Tournament grid, and this one will take place in what Michael Miller so fondly called "The Living Desert" or what we called "that place which was hotter than hell" or "almost as hot as Vegas" this summer. But the winter is the best time to be in the low desert area of Palm Springs, so you might want to check this one out.
The tournament will take place at Cathedral City and Palm Desert High Schools, both of which have beautiful facilities. The tournament will take place one staggered days, December 7,9, 11, and 12. The tournament will feature pool play the first three days, and will feature teams from Cathedral City, Palm Desert, Redlands East Valley, Silverado, Central, Calexico, La Quinta and Serrano.
Cathedral City features one of the biggest and potentially best freshmen this year in Thomas Shewmake (6'-8" Fr. F/C) who will impress a lot of people this year. His coach Rob Hamner is very excited about his progress as player and as a student. Rob tells us that "his first quarter grades included five "A's" and a "B+". " We first saw Thomas this summer at the Cathedral City Tournament, which featured Ayala, Artesia, and several other really impressive 'big-schools' and Thomas has great skills, agility and tremendous upside potential.
Look for Thomas to have a huge impact on the Desert Valley
League this season. We'll also be doing a preview of Cathedral City shortly so stay
tuned.
