Larry Beard Quits Cal State Northridge Team--(Nov. 28, 1998)

According to today's edition of the Los Angeles Daily News, Larry Beard (6'-9" Jr. C) from Crockett, Texas, has resigned from the Cal State Northridge team according to coach Bobby Braswell.  Braswell said Beard, in his first season at CSUN, will remain in school through the semester before returning home. "What he told me was his heart wasn't in basketball any more," Braswell told the Daily News. "He told me the best thing for him to do was to finish school out and go back to Texas where his heart is. I have to respect that."

Beard, who averaged 14 points and 8.9 rebounds at Angelina College last season, played in one game and clearly was not going to be an impact player.  Whether he will play elsewhere is doubtful given that he'd have to redshirt unless he transfers to a D-II or D-III school.
