Aerick Sanders & Wesley Stokes At
San Diego State This Weekend--(Oct. 1, 1999)

sander120.jpg (5379 bytes)SCAWesleyStokes.jpg (7824 bytes)We've learned through several sources, including our buddies at Recruiting USA, that Wesley Stokes (5'-10" Sr. PG) Long Beach Poly--pictured right--and Aerick Sanders (6'-10" Sr. F/C) from Gardena Serra--pictured left--will both make official visits to the San Diego State campus this weekend, following up on home visits that the two had during the last few weeks.  Stokes' visit, which took place two weeks ago, reportedly went very well and he was impressed with Fisher, although the other leader on the West Coast is Oregon State, which conducted their "in-home" visit not at Wesley's home, but at the Long Beach City College gym.  Stokes is also being recruited hard by Missouri along with his friend Travon Bryant (6'-8" Sr. PF) Long Beach Jordan, who has had visits from just about everyone and his uncle, a total of more than 10 schools, including Kansas and UCLA.  Wesley was voted as the MVP of the Double Pump Fall Premier Tournament last weekend, and he made some devastating crossover moves which had everyone in the stands gasping for breath and several Compton Dominguez players looking for a pair of ankle braces.

This past summer, we reported after seeing Wesley at the Best in the West Summer Shootout, that he'd taken his game to a whole new level after we saw him pour in 48 points in a single game, and over time, we've also not seen anything since then which would cause us to change our minds about that assessment.  We know that UCLA has apparently backed off recruiting a point guard in light of the Bozeman situation (or maybe the DeShawn Stevenson recruitment), but really guys, you'll need somebody in a year or two besides Earl and Moose. . .

Aerick Sanders is also a top target for San Diego, and he'd be a great fit there for coach Fisher, a big man who is already a prolific scorer in and around the basket, and who might be after a bit of strength and weight training a major impact player at the MWC level by his sophomore year. Aerick had a home visit with UCSB last weekend, but is attracting lots of attention from all over, as we've previously reported.
