Aerick Sanders Commits
To SDSU--(Oct. 26, 1999)
Aerick Sanders (6'-10" Sr. PF/C) from Gardena Serra HS, has given a verbal commitment to San Diego State's head coach Steve Fisher for next season, and will sign a national letter of intent during the early signing period. With the commitment of Chris Walton (6'-8" Sr. PF), the Aztecs immediately begin the rebuilding process with two big post players who are skilled and will be immediate impact players.
In selecting SDSU, Sanders rejected offers from Oregon State and Northwestern, as well as earlier interest from several other west coast schools. Aerick averaged 18 ppg last season and an amazing 14 rpg, and played the entire summer and last spring with the Pump N Run Gold team, leading them to three final fours. Aerick will need to begin to work on putting on weight and strength, but he has the athleticism and skills around the basket to become an immediate impact player. He has an amazing touch around the basket, good leaping ability, excellent quickness and is one of the smartest players in the region.
Aerick was interviewed by Ed Graney of the San Diego Union Tribune, for a story the paper published on his and Walton's commitments, and Aerick said, "I knew this is where I wanted to go from the moment I took my official visit. There's a chance to play some right away and Coach Fisher has one of the best records in college history. I'm relieved this is over so now I can concentrate on my senior season. I really got along well with the San Diego State players and felt very comfortable with everyone down there."
