Univ.of Redlands 52nd Annual
Lee Fulmer Tourney Set--(Oct. 5, 1999)
We don't often cover D-III stuff, but when we hear about something we'll pass it along, and so when we came across this in the Redlands Daily Facts, a local Redlands paper, we couldn't resist. The 52nd Annual Lee Fulmer Memorial Basketball Tournament will take place featuring eight D-III teams from December 2-4 at Redlands University's Currier Gymnasium. The tournament will feature two teams from out of the state; Hope International University (Irvine, Calif.) will play Cal Tech at 2 p.m. in the tournament opener on Dec. 2. The Redlands Bulldogs will play later that night against UC Santa Cruz. Other first-round matchups include Cal Baptist against Westminster (Utah) College (8 p.m.) and Chapman University (Orange, Calif.) against North Central (Ill.) College at 4 p.m.
In last year's tournament finals, Cal Baptist College beat host Redlands, winning the event for the fifth time. The Lancers also won in 1991, 1988, 1976 and 1975. The three-day tournament will include semifinal games on Friday, Dec. 3, with the finals on Dec. 4 at 8 p.m.
Finally, for those fans of the University of Redlands, the Bulldogs will open their season at the "Triton Tipoff" a tournament being hosted at UC San Diego (a team which is now in it's last season of D-III ball; the Tritons move up to D-II next season, taking UC Riverside's place since UCR is moving to D-I). The Bulldogs will play Oswego State (Ore.) in the UC San Diego Triton Tipoff, which is scheduled for Nov. 26-27 at UC San Diego's RIMAC Arena.
