Nike Extravaganza V Set For Feb. 5,
2000
At LB Pyramid --(Oct. 21, 1999)
Steve Kasper, who is one of the great folks behind the scenes at the Nike Extravaganza gave us the scoop on the next great Nike Extravaganza. This is the V'th one (that's 5th for those of you non-Romans out there), and it if you haven't yet read the Fontana HS preview, then this will be news to you. Even though this great exhibition event (featuring several league contests) won't take place for another four months, we work on the theory that it's never too early to do a little advance planning.
So get ready to see the great re-match of the No. 1 team in the U.S., Oak Hill Academy from Mouth of Wilson, Virginia, against Compton Dominguez, and several other great matchups during the two sessions, including a rematch of last year's game between Mater Dei and Concord's De La Salle HS.
The Nike Extravaganza V, will be held Saturday
February 5, 2000, at the Long Beach State Pyramid. Once again two sessions of outstanding
high school
basketball match ups will be showcased.
The Morning Session:
10:00 a.m. Servite vs Ocean View
11:30 a.m. St. John Bosco vs Villa Park
1:00 p.m. Santa Margarita vs Glendora
2:30 p.m. Mayfair vs Fontana
The Evening Session:
4:30 p.m. Durango (Las Vegas) vs Fairfax
6:00 p.m. Long Beach Poly vs Los Alamitos
7:30 p.m. Mater Dei vs Concord De La salle
9:00 p.m. Oak Hill Academy vs Dominguez
These are some great teams and excellent matchups, and it will make for an orgy of basketball action for true junkies. The organizers will also be announcing some other special attractions for the event as those deals are secured, but we have it on good authority that there will also be some interesting "internet" happenings. This is also the first time that the event will be held at the Pyramid; last year the event was moved from the Bren Center at UCI, where it had been held in 1997-98, to the Cal State Fullerton gym (which was absolutely packed). The Pyramid will allow for a slightly bigger crowd, better parking, and much better sight-lines for everyone. It's a great facility and it also puts the venue closer to a lot of the L.A. fans.
See you there.
