Midnight Madness, Some
Locals Tripping--(Oct. 14, 1999)

Who's going where this weekend?  Here's what we know:

Ellis Myles was, when last we heard tonight, planning a trip to Fresno State for Midnght Madness.

Wesley Stokes will be at Missouri for the weekend, visiting his top school (but just don't tell OSU that).

Travon Bryant and DeShawn Stevenson will both be at Kansas for their version of Midnight Madness.  Travon has said that he will not commit during the visit, no matter how swept up in the "madness" he gets; he'll return home to consider all of his options before making any decisions.

E.J. Harris is supposed to be at Kansas State, and we hear that his teammate Tommy Johnson may also be making the trip.

Chris Walton (6'-8" Sr. PF) from University of San Diego High School, and T.J. Cummings (6'-8" Sr. PF) from Homewood-Flossmoor, Ill, will be at UCLA.

Nick Enzweiler (6'-6" Sr. SF/SG) from Camplindo in Moraga, CA will be at USC.

And, according to Frank Burlison and various other sources, Teyo Johnson (6'-6" Sr. SF/SG) may also make a trip to Westwood, but it will probably be more for the football than it will be for the hoops, although Teyo has said repeatedly that he has not yet made up his mind about which sport he will want to play in college, perhaps both. In fact we've read reports where he's said that he may sign a basketball LOI and then others which have said he'll sign a football LOI, but if he intends to play football, at least during his first two years in school, he'd better not sign a basketball letter, because basketball scholarship guys are not eligible for football for two years, whereas the reverse is not true and you can play hoops if you sign a football letter.  Screwy rules, but then it's the NCAA. . .say no more.

As far as who is hosting midnight practice festivities, you'll have three options locally:  Pepperdine in Malibu, Long Beach State, and Cal State Fullerton.  UCLA does "Fan Appreciation Day", and USC doesn't do Midnight Madness either (hey, where would the Trojans do it anyway. . . they don't have an arena. . . yet. ).

Cal State Northridge won't be holding a midnight practice session either.  They will be holding a special Tip-Off Dinner, on November 6, 1999, and John Wooden will be the guest speaker.  The event is kinda pricey (kinda??? it's $100 a ticket) but then you've never tasted chicken like this before. . . . Seriously, if you've never heard John Wooden speak, it's well worth the price of admission.
