Jerry McNair Commits to WSU;
More Wazzu Stuff--(Oct. 12, 1999)
Frank Burlison is reporting this morning in his weekly basketball column in the Orange County Register that Fullerton College guard Jerry McNair, one of Southern California's top 10 junior college players, committed to Washington State after visiting Pullman over the weekend. The 6-2 McNair, who averaged 13 points a game as a freshman for the Hornets, also was a target of interest for Long Beach State, Arizona State, Texas-El Paso and UNLV, among others. McNair is a phenomenal shooter who reportedly put on an amazing exhibition at the recent Fullerton JC Fall Showcase, which we didn't get to see because we were busy at the Pump Fall Premier Tournament that weekend, but our friend Mike Miller did get out to see him and the rest of the JC guys and he had some reallly great things to say about McNair: "The best player on the floor yesterday was Jerry McNair, 6-2 SO SG Fullerton JC. Jerry put on a shooting exhibition of the likes I've rarely seen in 20 years of watching bb. It is easy to see why Washington State, UTEP, Loyola-Chicago, San Jose State and a number of other schools are on him. For WSU fans, Jerry would be your next Jan-Michael Thomas, except maybe Jerry is even better."
McNair is WSU's first verbal of the year. WSU has also reportedly had official visits from several top players recently, including Andrew Zahn (6'-9" Sr. PF) from Redondo Union, but whether Zahn is even close to committing is unknown at the time, and it's still possible now that Phillip Ricci (6'-8" So. PF) from Delta College has apparently decided against the Bruins, that Lavin & Co., might yet make a deal with Andrew. But WSU isn't out of it either, and Zahn's former Redondo teammate, Marcus Moore (6'-4" PG), who transferred from Redondo to Dominguez is still reportedly going to enroll at Pullman in December once his transcripts are straightened out.
