Brennan Martin Commits
To Texas A&M--(Oct. 26, 1999)

Russ Blake of Heartland Hoops is reporting that Brennan Martin (6'-6" Sr. SF/SG) from Trabuco Hills has committed to Texas A&M. According to Blake, Martin's decision was made on Monday night after talking with his dad (who now resides in Michigan temporarily). "I picked Texas A&M due to the overall situation," Martin told Blake. "The relationship I formed with the guys on the team, and the whole environment that I experienced on my visit were the main factors."

Martin had been recruited by USC, had taken an official visit there several weeks ago, and had been scheduled to take a trip to Wyoming, but has now reportedly canceled the trip. He visited Texas earlier this month, during the weekend of October the 9th, and enjoyed the visit, enough so that he decided to commit.  When we last spoke with Brennan at the Pump Fall Premier Tournament in late September, he told us that he was strongly considering USC, but evidently after taking the visit to Texas, he began to lean heavily in the direction of the Aggies.

According to Blake's story at Heartland Hoops, Martin previously resided in Texas when he was younger, and told Blake during a telephone interview,  "I went to basketball camp in Texas when I was younger. I actually know some of the students at the school, and I played with one of the kids on the team when I lived in Texas. I also have family in the area as well."

Martin is only the latest in a string of Southern California players to commit to the Big 12.  Last week DeShawn Stevenson announced that he would attend Kansas, E.J. Harris announced yesterday that he committed to Kansas State, and Wesley Stokes may yet wind up committing to Missouri (or possibly USC). And Travon Bryant is being recruited by both Kansas and Missouri.  Of the Big 12, Martin told Blake, "The opportunuity to play in the Big 12 and play against Kansas and play a great schedule also weighed into my decision.
