LA Athletic Club-John R. Wooden
Basketball Tip-Off Luncheon--(Oct. 4, 1999)

The Los AngelesAthletic Club's  Annual NCAA Division I Coaches' Luncheon will be held this Thursday, October 7th at the Los Angeles Athletic Club in downtown LA.  Coaches get together from all over the West, from Santa Barbara to San Diego and all points in between (in short, all the D-I's in SoCal), to preview their teams and give their views (some candid and some not so candid) about the upcoming season.  Reservations are necessary, and tickets are $25.00 per person, which includes the luncheon.  Business attire (i.e., ties, "casual Friday office wear", etc) is required.  The LA Athletic Club is a private club which also sponsors the John R. Wooden Award, and this year, the list of nominees is pretty impressive, and they've created a pretty nice website for both the Club and the John R. Wooden Award.  At the luncheon, there will be a presentation, and then a question and answer session with the coaches.  Expect to see Steve Lavin (UCLA), Henry Bibby (USC), Bob Williams (UCSB), Bobby Braswell (CSUN), Jeff Schneider (Cal Poly SLO), Bob Hawking (CSUF), Wayne Morgan (CSULB), Pat Douglas (UCI), Steve Fisher (SDSU), Charles Bradley (LMU), Jan van Breda Kolff (Pepperdine), Brad Holland (USD), and probably John Masi (UCR) now that they've gone D-I. We'd also expect to see quite a few assistant coaches as well, including a lot of familiar faces from the local and national tournaments on the traveling circuit who are responsible for recruiting.
